Steelers RB Jaylen Samuels out a month after knee surgery

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave some bad news at his Tuesday press conference. Tomlin reported running back Jaylen Samuels had his knee scoped on Monday and will be out for around a month.

This is a huge hit to the Steelers offense on multiple fronts. Samuels had not only started getting more and more reps at running back, spelling James Conner but was also working as the wildcat quarterback in the team’s newest offensive wrinkle.

But this injury complicates things even further. Samuels was also the team’s emergency quarterback. Considering how the injury bug has bitten this team, it will be vital for the Steelers to sort out who will come in under a worst-case scenario. It could be punter Jordan Berry or maybe tight end Zach Gentry.

In Samuels’ absence, look for rookie Benny Snell Jr. to see a bump in his workload.
