Steelers RB coach checks out Benny Snell Jr. at Kentucky pro day

The name everyone associates with the University of Kentucky and the 2019 NFL draft is edge rusher Josh Allen. Allen is a near-lock to come off the board in the first five or six picks. But the Wildcats also have some firepower on offense in the form of running back Benny Snell. But the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t forget about him.

According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, the Steelers sent running backs coach Randy Faulkner to the Kentucky pro day to get a closer look at Snell. Snell rusher for 1,449 yards in 2018 and has topped 1,000 yards rushing in each of the last three seasons.

If you haven’t had a chance to see Snell play, he’s a low slung back with a low center of gravity and wide base. He’s patient, works downhill with tremendous power and his leg drive just pushes him through tacklers.

Pittsburgh has James Conner and Jaylen Samuels but Snell in the third or fourth round would represent great value. He’s the kind of back who can come in situationally and just batter a tired defense but I do believe he has the potential to be a two-down power back with a heavy workload.
