Mike Tomlin said he's not going to look ahead to the first playoff opponent this week, but Ben Roethlisberger will be during his free time.
Roethlisberger said Wednesday morning he will help prepare Landry Jones to start against the Browns in a meaningless regular-season finale. But when he's not doing that, he'll be looking at video of the Miami Dolphins and other possible opponents on wild card weekend.
"I'll do whatever is needed," Roethlisberger said of his role this week. "Help him prepare. Do the Miami stuff or whoever, start preparing for the playoff game when I can."
The Dolphins remain the most likely playoff opponent. The Dolphins will come to Heinz Field if they lose to the Patriots Sunday, or if the Chiefs lose to the Chargers in San Diego. The Steelers will play the Chiefs in the first round if the Chiefs and Patriots lose Sunday.
Tomlin said Tuesday he will rest Roethlisberger, running back Le'Veon Bell, receiver Antonio Brown and center Maurkice Pouncey against the Browns. Others could be taken out of the game early.
Roethlisberger said he is looking forward to taking the week to heal up, and he doesn't believe the layoff will hurt the offensive chemistry.
"It's just about getting older," Roethlisberger said. "At this time of the year everyone is a little banged up and hurting. If coach says take the day off, I'm not going to argue.
"Staying mentally strong is huge this time of the year, being mentally ready go to go because it's been a long season. Physically, it can be better if you get healthy and rested up."
