Steelers QB Mason Rudolph forced to walk off field after concussion

There was a scary moment for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday when quarterback Mason Rudolph went down in a heap after taking a helmet to the chin by Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas. The hit knocked Rudolph unconscious and the medical staff spent several minutes with Rudolph on the ground evaluating him.

But when it was time to get him off the field, it was a case of adding insult to injury for Rudolph and the Steelers. Instead of putting him on the cart that drove out to the field, Rudolph was helped to his feet and assisted off by teammates. This seemed very odd for a guy who just took a huge blow to the head. But here’s why it happened.

The cart broke down on the field.

The notion there aren’t two carts or an ambulance at the ready is absurd and the Steelers and Heinz Field should be embarrassed by this. Rudolph ended up being transported to a hospital for further evaluation and rumor has it he wasn’t forced to walk there.
