The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to navigate the rest of their season without their mainstay at quarterback.
Ben Roethlisberger will miss the remainder of the year with an elbow injury that will require surgery, coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Monday.
Tomlin said Roethlisberger underwent an MRI on Sunday evening and that the quarterback is scheduled for surgery later this week. He will be placed on injured reserve.
Roethlisberger left Sunday’s 28-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the second quarter and did not return. He was replaced by 2018 third-round pick Mason Rudolph, who is set to take over as the team’s starter for the remainder of the season.
