Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger gets huge raise with new contract

ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler offered up the rough financials of the new contract Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger got and as expected the bump in salary was enormous. According to Fowler, Roethlisberger’s 2019 salary stays put at $12 million but in 2020 and 2021 he becomes one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.

There’s going to be a tremendous amount of debate around whether or not Roethlisberger is worth this raise. I don’t know the details of every contract the Steelers have ever written, but it’s hard to imagine they’ve ever negotiated a raise of this magnitude with a 37-year old player before.

But the reality of the NFL is you cannot win without a great quarterback. The Steelers now basically have a three-year window to get back to the Super Bowl before a massive rebuild begins. Do you agree with the new contract for Roethlisberger or could the money have been spent elsewhere?
