Things are going great for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In a talented AFC, the Steelers have set themselves apart and are currently 9-0. The team is far from perfect but this team finds ways to win games whether it is through the offense or the defense.
One area in recent weeks that seems to be shifting is the focus of the offense. At the beginning of the season, the Pittsburgh offense was balanced with the run game topping 100 yards per game and the pass offense working in tandem with it.
But over the course of the past three weeks, Pittsburgh has failed to get 50 yards rushing per game and the passing offense has carried the day. But according to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, this isn’t an issue as long as the team is winning.
We shouldn’t get so caught up in yards per carry or total yards rushing or things like that because it really comes down to winning football games first, which we did, and everything kind of falls into place from there.
This sounds great. But at this point, I’m not sure the Steelers can establish and maintain a productive run game if forced to. The Cincinnati Bengals chose to stack the box on Sunday and dared Roethlisberger to throw it. But this won’t always be the case.
Should the Steelers just embrace they are a pass-heavy team and hope it works in this modern NFL?
