Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger apologizes to fans, teammates for loss

The image of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sitting alone on the bench after the team’s 48-37 loss to the Cleveland Browns was stirring. Roethlisberger threw for 501 yards on Sunday and tried to keep his team in the game but his four interceptions sealed the fate of the Steelers and sent them packing in the first round of the playoffs.

After the game, Roethlisberger wasn’t ready to talk about his future but he did want to apologize to the fans and to his teammates for how he played. Roethlisberger has always been one to wear his heart on his sleeve when it comes to losses and I cannot fathom how hard he is taking this loss, especially if it turns out to be his last game as a Steeler.

Roethlisberger is a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Two-time Super Bowl champion. Nothing that happened on Sunday night can change that. But as a guy who has been the leader of this team since he was a rookie in 2004, you don’t want to see it end like this.
