Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger admits he missed some throws again

At one point in the first half of the Pittsburgh Steelers 28-21 win over the Houston Texans, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was 3-for-8 for 30 yards passing. Roethlisberger turned things around and finished 23-for-36 for 237 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.

But after the game, Roethlisberger was once again quick to own his mistakes and admit he missed some throws. On more than one occasion in the first half, Roethlisberger has opportunities to get the football to his playmakers in stride so they could make plays but put the football well behind them.

However, those short throws aren’t what is worrisome. Roethlisberger took three deep shots on Sunday against Houston, missing on all three. And by missing I mean missing badly. Bigtime overthrows that never had a chance to be caught.

Earlier in the week, we wondered if Roethlisberger was holding back on his throws and maybe he wasn’t sure if he thought his arm was ready for it. After Sunday’s game, I think it’s fair to say he’s getting closer but still lacking the touch on his deep throws he is known for. Could be the injury, could just be rust. Either way, it’s happening.
