Steelers President Art Rooney II isn’t interested in rebuilding

There have been very few teams in NFL history that can maintain a competitive roster over the long haul. Most teams are forced, due to the salary cap and roster changes to take steps back in order to push forward.

But one team that doesn’t want to take those steps back is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Team President Art Rooney II didn’t mince words when he talked about wanting to field a competitive team every year and they weren’t even thinking about re-building.

This sounds great but the fact is, this franchise hasn’t fielded a super-bowl caliber squad in some time and 2021 isn’t looking much better. Expectations have to be realistic when you are thinking about an NFL franchise and honestly I don’t know if ownership is looking at this team with a critical enough eye.

The big move of this upcoming offseason will be concerning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. But truth be told, I’m not sure Roethlisberger makes this team good enough to win a Super Bowl in 2021 but we know this team isn’t even a playoff contender without him. So what should the team do? Are the Steelers to a point where just making the playoffs is good enough? Over the last 10 years it really feels that way.
