Steelers OT Chuks Okorafor becomes US citizen

One of the guys in the running for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting right tackle job this season is second-year pro Chuks Okorafor. This would be a huge milestone for Okorafor in his life. He also hit another major milestone recently when he received his U.S. citizenship.

According to the article on the team’s official site, Okorafor and his family came to the United States in 2010. He was born in Nigeria but also lives in South Africa and Botswana before coming to the United States.

“It’s always been my dream and a dream for my family to do this and call ourselves U.S. citizens,” said Okorafor. “We have so many more rights because of it, including the right to vote. It makes me feel more comfortable here, safer here. This was important for us.”
