Steelers OC Randy Fichtner says no rookie wall for WR Chase Claypool

At this point, nothing Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner says any sense. Fichtner has proven this season beyond a shadow of a doubt he is incapable of being an NFL offensive coordinator in today’s NFL.

On Thursday, Fichtner spoke to the media about rookie wide receiver Chase Claypool and offered up another one of his classic contradictions that makes you wonder if there’s any way he can remain employed after this season.

According to Fichtner, Claypool didn’t hit the rookie wall, but then said he did. “I won’t say that he hit that wall, but I will say that there is something there that you have to work yourself through,” Fichtner said.

So, did Claypool hit the rookie wall or not? Or is Fichtner the rookie wall? We’ve seen Claypool’s production and reps drop but it has never felt like he was dealing with any concerns with conditioning so this makes no sense. Seeing Claypool, as well as James Washington, being so underutilized over the last month there’s nothing to indicate this is anything but Fichtner’s oddball handling of this offense.
