Steelers OC Randy Fichtner critical of Mason Rudolph

Things didn’t go according to plan for the Pittsburgh Steelers in quarterback Mason Rudolph’s first NFL start. What happened? Well to the casual observer it looked like it was a combination of some jitters early by Rudolph coupled with yet another questionable gameplan by offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner.

When Fichtner talked about the offense he didn’t hold back on what he considered missed opportunities by Rudolph.

“We had some opportunities for some throws,” Fichtner said. “If you don’t connect or throw them, it never materializes.”

Fichtner followed the criticisms up with something of a vote of confidence in Rudolph when he said he wasn’t second-guessing him. Honestly, this is just another example of the ineptitude of Fichtner. He’s been handed piles of talent in 2018 and couldn’t win. Does anyone really think he can create a gameplan for the current roster?

You have to wonder how long the Steelers are going to be satisfied with an underperforming offense and make a move.
