Steelers Nick Vannett and Mason Rudolph trained together in the offseason

Perhaps there was a deeper goal with the Pittsburgh Steelers making the trade for tight end Nick Vannett. The former Seattle Seahawk was acquired by the Steelers for a fifth-round pick to bolster the depth at tight end. Vannett spoke to the media and said he and Rudolph spent two or three months training together in the offseason.

With Xavier Grimble headed to IR there’s a good chance Vannett sees significant snaps this weekend. Vance McDonald says he’s hoping to play but might not be 100 percent and rookie Zach Gentry is a complete unknown.
