Steelers miss elite playmaker in new 2020 NFL mock draft

Our friends over at Draft Wire have a brand new 2020 NFL mock draft of the one-round variety. Despite the fact the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t have a first-round pick, this doesn’t stop us from digging into these drafts to see who Pittsburgh misses in the first round. Pittsburgh traded their first-round pick to the Miami Dolphins this season for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

In this hypothetical, the Steelers first-round pick is No. 8 overall. And with that pick the Dolphins select Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Lamb is one of the two most dynamic offensive playmakers in the entire draft. He is a true No. 1 receiver and a future star.

Lamb only has 31 receptions in seven games for Oklahoma this season but this doesn’t tell the whole story. Lamb has turned 10 of those catches into touchdowns and has 681 receiving yards for a 22-yard average.

Would Lamb fill a need? Absolutely. JuJu Smith-Schuster has struggled to assume the role of a No.1 wide receiver on this team. And there is no one else on the roster at the position who is scaring opposing defenses.

We’ve gone over a handful of mock drafts so far this season and honestly this is the first pick where you can reasonably wonder if Fitzpatrick is a better player than the one selected with the pick. Pittsburgh’s defense continues to improve and the offense is still chasing its tail. A player like Lamb is going to make some offense much better. But not Pittsburgh’s.
