Steelers listed as affiliates for the Birmingham Iron of the AAF

The Alliance of American Football kicked off its inaugural season on Saturday night. For those of us already in withdrawals from the lack of Pittsburgh Steelers’ football, it might be a nice filler. But if you weren’t sure who to root for, we might be able to help. The Steelers are actually an affiliate team for the Birmingham Iron.

What does this mean? It’s all about player allocation. Here’s how the three-phase player allocation process works in the AAF.

What this means is if a player has already been on the Steelers roster at some point most recently, the Iron have dibs so to speak on the player for their roster. The Iron currently has seven former Steelers on their roster.

L’Damian Washington, Wide receiver

Larson Graham, Offensive line

Casey Sayles, Defensive line

Jacob Hagen, Safety

Jamar Summers, Cornerback

Johnny Maxey, Defensive line

What this means is when you start to root for those Steelers in training camp and preseason who really don’t have a chance to make the team, you might see them in a Birmingham uniform next season.
