Steelers LB Ryan Shazier wins George Halas Award

The Pro Football Writers of America announced on Monday that Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has been selected as the 2019 George Halas Award winner. The award is given every year to an NFL player, coach or staff member who overcomes the most adversity to succeed.

Shazier might not be back on the field, but his recovery from a back injury suffered during a game back in December 2017 has been nothing short of remarkable. It wasn’t clear if Shazier would even walk again, but he has willed himself well beyond that and continues to maintain he wants to play football again.

Fellow Steeler James Conner was also one of the finalists for the award.
