Steelers land pass rusher, wide receiver in new 3-round mock draft

After finishing 8-8 and missing the playoffs for a second-straight season, the Pittsburgh Steelers recognize they need help on both sides of the football. In the latest Bleacher Report three-round mock draft they went with a player on offense and defense with the team’s two picks in the first three rounds. But did they miss the mark?

In the second round, Blacher Report gave Pittsburgh Michigan edge rusher Josh Uche. He’s a short, squatty edge rusher with excellent balance and a strong burst. He’s relatively inexperienced and doesn’t always show the type of strength you want to see against the run but his upside is significant.

Moving to the third round, they gave the Steelers Texas wide receiver Devin Duvernay. Duvernay is a nice player and that 4.39 time in the 40-yard will be tempting. But his size isn’t great and honestly, he doesn’t play as fast as his time. That’s not to say he isn’t a bad player. But in watching him play I don’t see Duvernay bringing anything to the party different than Diontae Johnson.

It’s easy to see the Steelers pick Uche. If the Steelers cannot re-sign Bud Dupree, a pass rusher will be a top priority. But the pick of Duvernay in the third round doesn’t feel like value for a team with more significant draft needs.
