Steelers land defensive playmaker in new 2020 NFL mock draft

Even though the 2020 NFL draft is still eight months away, college football is in full swing. This means you are going to see more and more coverage of potential draft prospects which includes the beloved mock draft. This latest offering comes from CBS Sports and you know we had to dive in and see what direction they went for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

They have the Steelers with the No. 24 overall pick and selecting Stanford cornerback Paulson Adebo. Here’s what they had to say about the rationale for the selection:

The Steelers just signed Joe Haden to a multi-year deal but rookie third-rounder Justin Layne didn’t look sharp in preseason and it’s easy to imagine Pittsburgh letting Artie Burns walk after the 2019 campaign. Adebo, a former wideout, plays with a physical edge that makes him a natural fit in the Steelers’ secondary.

It would be somewhat ironic if the Steelers select a first-round cornerback to replace the last cornerback they drafted in the first round. But there’s nothing to say if Artie Burns falls flat again that they Steelers won’t try to draft an eventual replacement for Joe Haden.
