Steelers’ ill-advised fake FG seemed like an awful experience for kicker Chris Boswell

If you can pull off a fake field goal, it’s one of those plays that can ignite a team and build momentum. But sometimes you really just have to know your limitations. Steelers kicker Chris Boswell learned that the hard way on Sunday.

During the Week 8 matchup between the Steelers and Browns, Pittsburgh lined up to kick a 28-yard field goal late in the second quarter with the score tied at 3-3. The Steelers probably should have taken the points in that situation, but instead, they went with the fake and had Boswell rolling out right to pass to the end zone.

That pass fell incomplete, and Boswell got absolutely rocked. Like, seriously … ouch.

The officials clearly missed a roughing the passer penalty on the play as Boswell took a shot to the helmet. But still, that was the kind of playcall that can come back to change a game, especially since Boswell was taken to the locker room after the play.

I don’t think we’ll see Boswell attempt many more passes in his career.

That was all the full-contact NFL experience he needed.
