Steelers HC Mike Tomlin stays secretive about QB plan vs Lions

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin seems to be enjoying pulling the collective chains of the media. On Thursday, Tomlin was asked about how he plans to handle the quarterback rotation on Saturday against the Detroit Lions and he intentionally kept things very close to the vest.

According to Tomlin, there is a plan for how to manage Ben Roethlisberger’s reps in his one and only preseason game, but Tomlin isn’t sharing it. Typically, Roethlisberger will only play a series or two in the third preseason game and I don’t expect him to play more than that.

The mystery will be with how Tomlin distributes reps between Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph. Tomlin said he has a plan for that but it’s afraid to adapt and go off-script.

I’d love to see Haskins come in after Roethlisberger exits and get him some reps against the Lions starting defense. Haskins has impressed in training camp and against reserves in preseason games but it would be great to see him going with starters against starter.
