Steelers HC Mike Tomlin releases statement about Ben Roethlisberger injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Monday, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would be headed to IR after suffering an elbow injury in Monday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Roethlisberger is going to require surgery and his season is over.

Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin released the following statement about the injury:

Ben Roethlisberger had an MRI on his right elbow Sunday evening and it was determined by the Steelers’ medical team that surgery will be required. We expect the surgery will be scheduled for this week. He will be placed on our Reserve/Injured List and is out for the season.

Pittsburgh will now turn to Mason Rudolph to lead the team for the remainder of the season. The Steelers currently sit at 0-2 and must now plan for a season without Roethlisberger running the offense.
