Steelers HC Mike Tomlin on rookie minicamp: ‘Very little surprises me’

After the second day of Pittsburgh Steelers rookie minicamp, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media. And in true Tomlin fashion, he spent several minutes telling us very little about who this group of rookies has shown him through two days.

Tomlin did note the circumstances that brought the various rookies plays a role in not only how they are evaluated but how the rookies approach a situation like this. It also creates a complicated situation for the coaches in terms of evaluation.

“We have a lot of irons in the fire as we do during a rookie minicamp,” Tomlin said. “But it’s been a good, positive camp thus far. Just appreciate the efforts, energy and attention we are getting from the young people.”

The 2019 rookie class is especially important for the Steelers. Pittsburgh missed the playoffs in 2018 and they will lean heavily on this group to help turn things around.

Rookie minicamp runs through May 12, then the team will break until May 21 gets back together for the next round of OTAs.
