Steelers HC Mike Tomlin joins national coalition on minority hiring for coaches

On Thursday, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin went on NFL Network and spoke about his disappointment in the state of minority coach hires in the NFL. Not long after that is was reported by multiple sources including NFL reporter Jim Trotter that Tomlin was joining a coalition to help groom and identify coaches of color as one of its board of directors.

Tomlin is perhaps the best example in the NFL of how minority hiring practices can work. The Steelers hired Tomlin in the same year the Rooney Rule was passed and since then he has enjoyed more than a decade as one of the most consistent coaches in the league. Tomlin is entering his 14th season as the Steelers head coach and is always talked about among the best coaches in the NFL.
