Steelers HC Mike Tomlin finally compares Devin Bush to Ryan Shazier

The comparisons between Devin Bush and Ryan Shazier started well before the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted him. It isn’t often inside linebackers with the level of athleticism Shazier and Bush have so it was inevitable.

But one guy who had avoided making those sorts of comparisons was Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. We get why. Shazier is beloved by the Steelers fanbase and before his injury was a truly elite player. But after Wednesday’s practice, Tomlin finally cracked and did throw out a comparison between Shazier and how Bush played in his preseason debut.

“Really (it was) kind of reminiscent of Ryan Shazier’s performance in his first home preseason game a number of years ago in terms of production and getting around and making a number of plays,” Tomlin said.

Bush’s rookie debut was tremendous. He racked up 10 total tackles in just a half of work and nearly had an interception. His speed and natural football instincts were on full display. No one is saying he will be the next Shazier, but if he just plays up to his incredible potential, this will be good enough.
