Steelers HC Mike Tomlin called the health of team a ‘fragile state’

The bye week couldn’t come soon enough for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Few teams have had to try to absorb the volume of injuries through six games the way the Steelers have this season. The situation was described as a “fragile state” by head coach Mike Tomlin in his Wednesday press conference.

To summarize some of the big injuries the Steelers have had to deal with, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and defensive end Stephon Tuitt are both done for the year. Additionally, Jaylen Samuels and James Washington are both out for several weeks. This is in addition to guys like Mark Barron, T.J. Watt and Steven Nelson, who are banged up, among others.

The hope is when this group gets back into game prep mode next week, most of the players dealing with injuries will be able to get back onto the practice field. The season isn’t completely lost, but if the injuries keep piling up, the staff is going to run out of ways to manufacture wins.
