Steelers have fourth-most dead cap space in the NFL

Thanks to the trade sending wide receiver Antonio Brown to the Oakland Raiders, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in a rather dubious grouping. According to Spotrac, one of the two main salary cap tracking sites around, the Steelers have the fourth-most dead money counting against the 2019 salary cap.

Brown’s dead money accounts for around 79 percent of the team’s $26.5 million but he isn’t the only culprit. Here’s how the rest of the dead money breaks down.

S Morgan Burnett-$2.833 million

OT Marcus Gilbert-$1,728 million

LB Jon Bostic-$700,000

DB Brian Allen-$115,000

On the other end of the spectrum, you have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who only have $1.1 million in dead cap which is best in the league.

The Steelers have very little wiggle room to make any free-agent moves at this point but they did free up some cap on Tuesday when they converted a big chunk of salary to signing bonus for defensive Stephon Tuitt.
