Steelers have a 1-in-9 chance of playing in Brazil to open 2024 season

The NFL announced on Monday that the other Pennsylvania team will play in the historic first-ever game in Brazil as part of the 2024 International Series.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be the designated home team in the first Week 1 game to be played on a Friday since Sept. 18, 1970 (Cardinals-Rams).

Since the Pittsburgh Steelers are one of Philadelphia’s visiting opponents next season, it could be the team that travels to South America. The matchup will be revealed closer to May’s schedule release.

“This landmark first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. “Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions.”

A Kenny Pickett-Jalen Hurts matchup doesn’t exactly inspire excitement, so the Eagles’ opponent isn’t likely to be the Steelers, but stranger things have happened.

Pittsburgh’s only international game was a 34-27 loss against the Minnesota Vikings at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2013.
