Steelers GM won’t rule out trading Antonio Brown to Patriots

Antonio Brown may have at least three NFL teams who have emerged as strong suitors in a trade, but Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert said “interest has grown” and the Steelers “haven’t eliminated anybody” regardless of division or conference.

It was reported that the Steelers had no-trade zones in the AFC North and with the New England Patriots. Apparently, that’s not the case.

“Ideally you want to trade him to somebody you’ll never play but you can’t do that, because if you’re good enough to get to the Super Bowl, you have to play him anyway,’’ Colbert said Wednesday during a meeting with reporters at the 2019 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. “The less you would play him, the better, but if a team comes through with the best compensation, we have to balance that out. OK, we’re going to play him, twice a year, but we’re going to get the best compensation, so it’s our job to do the better job with the compensation and you have to weigh that all into the discussion.’’

Colbert said he expected plenty of trade chatter to take place during the week with general managers in town for the combine. He would not reveal, however, whether the Patriots had contacted him about a trade for Brown.
