Steelers GM Kevin Colbert passes on Florida pro day for Texas

One of the most popular pro days of the offseason is the University of Florida. They always seem to have several interesting prospects. There are several guys the Pittsburgh Steelers might be interested in, including edge rusher Jachai Polite and defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.

But Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert opted not to attend the Florida pro day and instead headed to Texas to check out the top Longhorn prospects. The only one of interest from a Steelers point of view is linebacker Gary Johnson.

Johnson is a mid-tier inside linebacker prospect with limited skills in space. He’s sort of a squatty version of Terrell Edmunds with less range. He’s got great speed but doesn’t really know how to use it.

It would have nice to see Colbert at Florida. They have an inside linebacker Vosean Joseph, who is biggest, just as fast and has much better tape. Either way, it will be interesting to see if Pittsburgh pulls the trigger on any Texas prospects.
