Steelers GM Kevin Colbert attends Alabama pro day

The University of Alabama always draws a crowd for its annual pro day. This is because the Crimson Tide always trot out a ton of legitimate NFL draft prospects. Alabama held their pro day on Tuesday and Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert was among 10 GMs who cam to check out the prospects.

Who was Colbert and the Steelers there to see? There are a couple of obvious choices. Inside linebacker Mack Wilson is the third-best inside linebacker prospect in this draft. But make no mistake he is not on the same level as guys like Devin Bush and Devin White. If the Steelers are looking at Wilson it isn’t as a first-round pick.

There is also safety Deionte Thompson. He is a fringe first-round pick but would be a smart play for the Steelers. The addition of Mark Barron may fill the need at inside linebacker adequately and would allow Terrell Edmunds to move to a more natural spot as the hybrid linebacker in the dime set. Thompson has better range than any safety currently on the roster and has the skills to cover the deep middle where Pittsburgh can get picked on at times.
