Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert says Artie Burns has confidence issues

Confidence is a dangerous thing. You have too much of it and you can get lax. Have too little and you can crumble. Perhaps the case of Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback was he started with too much and not that it’s lost he can’t get it back. Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert spoke on 93.7 The Fan and he talked about what’s going on with the former first-round pick.

“Artie lost his confidence and wasn’t where we needed him to be and was replaced in the starting lineup,” Colbert said. “He’s had a good offseason . . . we had good meetings with him. He wants to be back where he was.”

The selection of Burns marked a 19-year drought from Pittsburgh using a first-round pick on a cornerback. And now it seems he won’t see a second contract with the Steelers. Pittsburgh signed Steven Nelson as a free agent and drafted Justin Layne in the third round.

You figure in Joe Haden, Mike Hilton and Cam Sutton and it isn’t hard to see Burns is going to have his work cut out for him to get playing time. We will all be rooting for Burns to turn things around but this is a team with a goal and don’t have the luxury of playing Burns if he isn’t confident enough to be effective.
