Steelers facing 2 big front-office contract situations this offseason

In the offseason, every NFL team has to address its contract situations with the roster but for the Pittsburgh Steelers, it extends into the front office as well. The contract of general manager Kevin Colbert expires after the 2020 NFL draft. And the contract of head coach Mike Tomlin runs through the end of the 2021 season.

The last time the Steelers worked on Tomlin’s contract was in 2019 when they added one year to his current deal. Tomlin is one of the most successful coaches in the NFL over his tenure and one of only three head coaches the Steelers have had since 1969. Ideally, the Steelers could go a one or two-year extension with Tomlin this offseason keeping him with the team past the current expiration of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

As for Colbert, things are more complicated. The team wanted to negotiate a new contract with the general manager last offseason but Colbert opted to play his final season without a new deal. This puts his future in jeopardy with the team.
