Steelers dominate the trenches for huge win over the Chargers

There’s an old adage that says if you can win the battle at the line of scrimmage you can win any game. The Pittsburgh Steelers certainly proved that point on Sunday night with a dominating win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

On offense, the Steelers offensive line took it upon themselves to control the line of scrimmage and not only did they keep rookie quarterback Devlin Hodges clean they opened up holes for the Steelers run game for the first time all season. James Conner knew he didn’t have Jaylen Samuels this week and he flat out dominated in the first half. Conner finished the game with 41 yards rushing and 78 yards receiving along with two scores.

But Conner wasn’t the only running back to play big. Rookie Benny Snell Jr. assumed the backup role and had 75 rushing yards of his own.

Defensively the Steelers smothered the Chargers for three quarters. As injuries started to pile up you could see the depth being tested. As the group wore down late the Chargers rattled off 17 straight. But after three turnovers and six hits on Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, Pittsburgh closed things out with an interception by cornerback Cam Sutton.
