Steelers could have two rookie UDFA safeties on final roster

During the 2019 NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers addressed multiple needs on defense. But one position they avoided completely with their draft picks was safety. However, the Steelers didn’t ignore the position completely as they signed two as undrafted free agents.

Both P.J. Locke and Dravon Askew-Henry have a real chance to make the final 53-man roster.

Here’s a look at some highlights of Locke’s career at Texas.

And here’s a closer look at former Askew-Henry from his career at West Virginia.

Look for a heated training camp battle between Locke, Askrew-Henry, Jordan Dangerfield and Marcus Allen for the two backup safety spots on the roster. Terrell Edmunds and Sean Davis are entrenched as the starters but Pittsburgh needs depth.

If I were making predictions, I’d lean toward Allen and Locke making the final roster. Allen has experience and Locke’s ability to drop into coverage gives him an edge over Askew-Henry and Dangerfield.

What does your safety depth chart look like? Let us know.
