Steelers, CB Joe Haden agree to 2-year extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers are locking up their top corner through the 2021 season.

Veteran cover man Joe Haden has inked a two-year extension with the Steelers, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler later confirmed it’s a two-year extension on his current deal, which has one year remaining.

Originally a first-round pick by the Cleveland Browns, Haden spent seven seasons with Pittsburgh’s AFC North rivals before playing the last two seasons with the Steelers.

The former Florida Gators star has started 26 games for the Steelers over that stretch, picking off three passes and breaking up 19 more.

At 30 years old, it’s likely Haden’s best football is behind him, but he’s still the best cover man on the roster right now, which makes this move a smart one for the Pittsburgh defense.

More specific details of the extension weren’t immediately available.

The extension marks Haden’s second contract with the Steelers, the first one coming almost two years to the day. Cleveland released him Aug. 30, 2017, and the Steelers signed him later that evening.
