Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey decided to do a little social distancing on his boat in Miami this week. This by itself would be no big deal. He shared the video on social media and it was captured by multiple other accounts.
But where he got himself in some hot water with the fans was by flying what appears to be a Trump 2020 flag on his boat. This is of course in reference to President Donald Trump and the upcoming presidential election.
All you have to do is read through the comments of the above tweet to understand just how polarizing Pouncey’s choice of a flag was to the fanbase.
It’s unfortunate fans feel the need to pass judgment so harshly on athletes for something as simple as political affiliation but this is the world we live in. You can bet Pouncey doesn’t care as he’s been one of the most outspoken members of the Steelers during his career and he didn’t share the video without knowing there would be backlash.
