Steelers bring back LB Sutton Smith to practice squad

ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor reported on Twitter on Wednesday the Pittsburgh Steelers were bringing back linebacker and part-time fullback Sutton Smith back to the Steelers practice squad.

The Steelers selected Smith in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft. Smith dominated lower-level competition at college as an edge rusher but his lack of size and strength at the point of attack made him a longshot from the beginning. But during training camp the Steelers used Smith as a fullback which is more interesting for the current situation.

Pittsburgh’s run game is in shambles and the only time we’ve seen it be efficient is when they have utilized a fullback. Roosevelt Nix is the starter but he continues to deal with setbacks from a knee injury suffered early in the season. Securing Smith now could be foreshadowing of him making the 53-man roster this week against the Los Angeles Rams to play some fullback this week.
