Steelers add LB Jayrone Elliott to preseason roster

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced a pair of roster moves on Thursday. After the injury to defensive lineman Lavon Hooks, the Steelers opted to waive him and replace him on the offseason roster with linebacker Jayrone Elliott.

Hooks reportedly suffered an Achilles injury that was going to cost him the season. Hooks was a longshot to make the final roster with the depth the Steelers have along the defensive line.

Elliott has been in the league since 2014. Undrafted out of Toledo, Elliot has spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints. Elliott had 57 career tackles and four career sacks.

Elliott’s best play came in an eight-game stint with the San Antonio Commanders of the now-defunct AAF. He had 7.5 sacks in his eight-game career there.
