With just days to go until the 2020 NFL draft, we are going to go through all of the Steelers positional units to review the current state of the roster, gauge draft needs and talk about some approaches to addressing the need.
Let’s take a look at the defensive line.
Roster
Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt form one of the best 3-4 defensive end tandems in the league. Unfortunately, Tuitt has struggled to stay healthy. Luckily, backup Tyson Alualu has played great in his place.
On the inside, the Steelers are hopeful some combination of Isaiah Buggs and Chris Wormley can replace the production of Javon Hargrave. And of course, we cannot forget about Dan McCullers who continues to find a way to keep a spot on the roster.
Draft need

There are two ways to look at the need to add a defensive tackle in the upcoming draft. Defensive end is pretty well covered as most of the guys on the roster can slide outside if needed. But there isn’t a true nose tackle on the roster with Hargrave gone. Maybe it’s just me but I’d love to see the Steelers draft a wide body to eat up blockers in the middle of the defensive front.
