Steam, the popular online gaming platform, is currently experiencing major unspecified issues that may put millions of users' private information at risk.
A breach or malfunction has reportedly occurred on Friday that forced users to access the accounts of complete strangers, placing private information such as home addresses, credit card numbers and more sensitive information at risk.
In a response to the breach, Valve Corporation has apparently shut down the online marketplace. Attempting to access the online platform only results in receiving an error message.
Millions of users worldwide logged into Steam on Christmas Day only to realize that their homepage was written in several languages foreign to their own, Kotaku reports.
Steam Database, a dedicated fan site, said that they believe the problem may have been caused by caching issues.
"Valve is having caching issues allowing users to view things such as account information of other users," SteamDB wrote on Twitter. "Don't use Store for now."
The gaming platform currently serves more than 125 million active users.
Valve Corporation did not immediately respond to The Independent’s request for comment.
