Steak bake recall: Greggs issues urgent update after plastic found in popular savoury treats

Greggs have issued an urgent recall for steak bakes after small pieces of plastic were found in the popular hot snack.

Today (28 August), a warning was posted on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website that said:

"Greggs is recalling Greggs frozen 2 pack steak bakes because they may contain small pieces of plastic. The presence of plastic makes this product unsafe to eat. This product is exclusively sold in Iceland Stores and does not affect the products sold in Greggs."

However, customers are reassured that this only applies to the frozen product sold in Iceland stores rather than products bought from Greggs bakeries.

The following products are affected:

Greggs Steak Bakes (2 pack)

  • Pack size: 280g
  • Best before date: 20 December 2020, 22 December 2020, 23 December 2020

The risk statement says: "The presence of plastic makes this product not safe to eat.

"Greggs is recalling the above product. Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all Iceland stores that are selling this product.

"These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."

If you have purchased the affected product you should not eat it. Instead, return it to an Iceland supermarket for a full refund.
