Steady Renuka guns for title, trails Lee by one in Orient Masters

Xiamen: Thailand's Renuka Suksukont shot her second consecutive round of 70 to sit one shot behind leader Lee Solar at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Orient Masters in Fujian province yesterday.

Thailand's Renuka Suksukont.

Renuka, winner of the ICTSI Philippines Ladies Masters in December, put herself in contention for her second CLPGA Tour crown when she finished strongly with three consecutive birdies to move to four-under 140 at the Orient Xiamen Golf and Country Club.

"My putting was good, I hit it really good. Irons were okay, close sometimes and sometimes not close," said the 23-year-old Pathum Thani native, who will attempt to qualify for the LPGA Tour of Korea next month.

"My whole focus tomorrow will be to control myself, don't get too nervous and just keep like the last two days staying on the fairways and getting on the greens. I just need to focus on every shot."

Three consecutive birdies over her final four holes made the difference for South Korean Lee, who shot a second round 67 to top the leaderboard heading into today's final round.

"This is my first time playing here. My short game went pretty well and my putter especially was hot so that gave me more birdie chances," said Lee who was runner-up at the Sanya Ladies Open in November.

"I am in a good position going into the final round. So close to the championship, I hope I could grab this chance."
