The traditional British holiday is becoming more popular as exchange rate issues see the pound plunge against the euro and dollar.
Half of people surveyed planned to take a British holiday this summer, with 42 per cent of staycations planned for the seaside – with a quarter expected to head to the countryside, and 18 per cent on a city break.
A poll of more than 2,000 people from online bank Marcus by Goldman Sachs shows that many decided on a summer staycation because of the cost of travelling overseas and it was seen as better value than going abroad.
But while holidaymakers could save on flights and international travel, 54 per cent still expected their staycation to top more than £300 per person.
As such, it’s the older generations that expected to fund many holidays this summer, with 21 per cent of parents picking up the bill for their 18-34-year-old children, and 16 per cent of the same age group relying on grandparents to fund their summer fun.

“What probably has changed over the decades is the price of holidaying at home, and with the average cost per person expected to come in above £300, costs quickly add up for families.
"It’s possible to save money on staycations by avoiding airfares, but you should still consider wider costs such as food and drink, accommodation, and entertainment and make sure you are setting a realistic budget so you can get the best possible enjoyment from your break.”
