Stay in a 'magical' tower in North Wales with a 'gothic' spiral staircase

A new year means plenty of new travel opportunities, with staycations still very much on the rise.

As lovely as a stay in a cottage or B&B is, there's something special about a stay in a quirky building that offers a unique aesthetic. With that January winter chill still in the air, the idea of a cosy staycation with a wood burning stove sounds very appealing.

Brynkir Tower is on the outskirts of Porthmadog in North Wales and described as 'magical' by visitors. The gothic tower is described as 'perfect' for a romantic getaway' by Sykes Cottages, with an internal spiral stone staircase that leads you to each of the six rooms.

The unique property features a sitting room, a wood-burning stove and 270-degree views of the surrounding countryside. There is a double bedroom with a brass bed, a twin-bed room and a bathroom with a cast iron roll-top bath on the 5th floor.

Although the property doesn't have a garden due to its rural location, there's plenty of stunning countryside views to enjoy. Two dogs are also allowed at the tower, making it an ideal staycation location.

The tower is situated in 'Garn' on the outskirts of Porthmadog, which is a short drive away. Visitors can enjoy views over the mountains and Cwm Pennant, with a selection of shops, cafes and a Highland Steam Train ride close by.

Among the reviews, one visitor said: "Seeing it peeping over the trees as we drove towards it was very exciting. It is a very impressive structure with great views. It is very peaceful and secluded. It was warm and well appointed, comfy beds, very posh bath and cosy living room to relax in at the end of the day. There are a lot of stairs from the kitchen to the living room so make sure you don't forget anything when you bring up the snacks and drinks!"

A second review read: "Comfortable clean and well equipped. Kids loved it too. Stairs were hard but we expected it as was stated in the description. So made up we could get to the top and the views were stunning. We will be back alot. Absolutely loved it, please please I implore people to stay at this beautiful tower you won't be disappointed."

A third visitor said: "Beautiful views and location. Ideal for spending time away from every day life."
