'Stay humble' - Eddie Howe's important message ahead of Newcastle United's tough clash at Chelsea

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has refused to bask in any glory after the club's nine-game unbeaten run. The Magpies are in their best form for more than a decade and Howe has just picked up manager of the month.

Yet the former AFC Bournemouth boss has warned his players not to get carried away with their achievements - despite not tasting a Premier League defeat since late 2021 at home to Manchester City. Howe and his team have prepared for the game in the south in the last couple of days.

In this press conference before the game, which took place in Southampton, Howe said: "Football changes very quickly, as we've seen for the positive. We need to be very grounded, very humble, very level.

"We're about to enter, and I do say this a lot, a difficult spell of games. "We now go to Chelsea, then Everton, then Tottenham, away from home – incredibly difficult games.

"What we have done is put a gap between us and the bottom teams, but that's all it is. "We've still got to win a lot more points."
