"Stay at home": Loch Lomond National Park's message ahead of Easter Weekend

Bosses at Loch Lomond National Park at pleading with people to stay at home ahead of Easter Weekend.

Gordon Watson, chief executive of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority, is urging people to stay local.

He said: "As we approach the bank holiday weekend, we would normally be welcoming lots of visitors to the national park to enjoy the splendours of spring.

"Current lockdown measures mean that for now, it's more important that we stay safe by staying at home. If you do need a breath of fresh air then please stay local and enjoy what's available on your doorstep.

"The national park will be waiting to welcome you in safer times. Until then, stay safe, stay well and stay local."

Two weeks ago, the chief hit out at visitors who turned up to the national park in droves to enjoy the spring weather.

Balloch and Luss were reported to be busy with people out enjoying the spring weather, despite government instructions not to undertake non-essential travel.

Today (Wednesday) Argyll and Bute Council took the decision to close its car parks at Luss, Arrochar (Glenloin 1 and 2) and Duck Bay.

A spokeswoman said: "Our message for visitors is please stay away so we can welcome you back soon.

"National guidance is clear – only travel if it’s essential. We all have a duty to act responsibly and keep each other safe from the threat of Covid-19.

"We want to welcome visitors back to Argyll and Bute, but once it is safe to travel.

"Essential workers, who still have to travel, will be able to access the electric vehicle charging point at Arrochar.

"Thank you."
