Staveley Consortium's Mehrdad Ghodoussi sends Newcastle United message after Everton win

Amanda Staveley's husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi has added his voice to Newcastle United fans celebrating the club’s win over Everton.

Ghodoussi is a consortium member of the attempted Saudi takeover at Newcastle, which has been led by Staveley.

The duo have twice attempted to buy a stake in the Magpies , and agreed a deal in principle last year alongside Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and the Reuben brothers.

The consortium walked away from the deal last summer due to complications over the Premier League's owner's and director's test, but fans remain hopeful of the group returning to buy the club from current owner Mike Ashley.

Ashley has since engaged the Premier League in a legal dispute and all parties are said to remain committed to the deal if it's given the green light.

Fans were therefore delighted to see Ghodoussi staying up to date with Newcastle’s efforts on the pitch on Saturday.

Two goals from Callum Wilson gave Steve Bruce’s side a much-needed 2-0 win at Goodison Park and ended the club’s 11-game winless streak.

Ghodoussi added to the new-found positivity around the club by tweeting “Get in!!” to his 8,374 followers.

Underneath the post one supporter wrote: “Brilliant Mehrdad!! Those two simple words will mean so much to so many.”

“Bar the love of your family Mehrdad you won't feel love as much like you'll receive from the NUFC fans and the city if you get this takeover done,” another wrote.

One fan added: “Mehrdad you can hear the screams of joy from Twitter just wait till you hear the real thing at SJP!!!!!!”

The possibility of a Newcastle takeover received a boost recently when Saudi Arabia agreed to end its trade embargo with Qatar.

Saudi Arabia had been accused of involvement in the beoutQ TV rights piracy of Qatar-based broadcaster beIN Sports and it was speculated that an end to the hostilities could provide a catalyst to a Newcastle takeover.

Ghodoussi celebrated the developments in the Middle East earlier this month.

He posted: "Congratulations to Saudi Arabia and Qatar for restoring diplomatic ties. May this bring continued stability and peace to the region."

Saturday’s win has relieved some pressure on the previously under-fire Bruce, with the Magpies moving onto 22 points and further away from relegation.

Moving down to the Championship would severely damage any proposed takeover, with the Premier League TV rights key to the club’s financial viability.
