Status Yellow alert issued for Dublin as Met Eireann warns of flooding

A Status Yellow rainfall warning is in place as Dublin is set to be lashed with heavy rain today.

Met Eireann has warned of spot flooding and persistent showers with the yellow alert extending to five counties.

The warning is in place until 9pm tonight for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow, and Meath.

A spokesperson for Met Eireann said: “Spells of heavy rain today with a risk of spot flooding.”

The national forecaster has predicted a rather wet Monday with persistent showers with temperatures of 9C to 11C.

The rain will continue into the night with the lows of 4C to 7C.

Tomorrow will be slightly better as lingering rain will clear tomorrow morning with a dry but cloudy day in store. Top temperatures will be 10C or 11C.

But Met Eireann’s national forecast says low pressure is set to dominate the weather this week with more rain and showers expected.

Temperatures will nosedive to as low as 0C midweek.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “Tuesday night: Dry in most places on Tuesday night, with just isolated showers affecting Atlantic coastal counties.

“Cloud will increase from the Atlantic overnight, with patchy rain and drizzle arriving in the west by dawn.

“Lows of 0 to 4 degrees, the coldest in the east where the clear spells will persist longest, with some frost. Light variable winds, becoming southeasterly in Atlantic coastal counties by dawn.”

Wednesday will see heavy and thundery rain with maximum temperatures of 6C to 9C and 10C to 11C depending on where you are.

“Variable cloud with showery outbreaks of rain on Wednesday night, with mist or fog patches in the midlands and north. Lows of 0 to 4 degrees.”
