Statistical proof Tyler Lockett made one of the most improbable catches ever

NFL fans everywhere can’t stop marveling at the touchdown catch made by Tyler Lockett on Thursday night in the Seattle Seahawks.

And there’s good reason for that. Did you see that thing? With the Hawks down 6-0 to the Los Angeles Rams, Russel Wilson scrambled off play action, went to his left while being chased by defenders and fired a pass to the corner of the endzone where Lockett pulled in the football.

In real time, you couldn’t tell on television that it was a touchdown. But then the replays showed up … and holy cow, he JUST got his toes in!

According to NFL Next Gen Stats, that was the “most improbable” catch we’ve seen in the past two years:

According to them, it beat out this Antonio Brown catch from 2017, in which he had inches to spare while making a catch that set up a game-winning field goal for the Steelers:

It reminded me of Santonio Holmes’ touchdown catch against the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII:
